What grass should I grow in South East Kansas..mostly shady lawn

I am starting a new lawn from seed. I live in SE Kansas..I have a mostly shady lawn..Also will straw on top cause weeds? or would peat moss be better? When I read directions elsewhere I am told to lightly roll the seed into the lawn..is that really necessary...? I do not have anything to roll the seed into the lawn and cannot buy more equipment.

Well if I were you and if I had some extra bucks I wouldn't buy seed but I would instead buy slabs of Bermuda grass sod. It grows quickly once laid down and grows in low to moderate sunlight. If you must do grass try to see if you can get Bermuda grass seeds.
