Empower is enable. Anything that enables seniors (or anybody) will empower them. 1.Providing a wheelchair empowers the recipient with mobility. 2.Taking them shopping empowers them with independence in their home. 3. Taking them to events (Like senior lunch programs, cards, painting classes) provides potential social skills and their skills provide self esteem. 4. Help them choose what they would like to do, then make it happen (If you can) It might require getting additional help from outside services. 5. Do not treat them like a child or an old person out of touch!
I think the suggestions oletafive gave are wonderful. I would also consider a ramp if they are in a chair, widen doors, put things within reach, and let them have input regarding their own care. Although they may be older, they still have feelings, ideas and opinions.
