how do I get prescribed ambien?

I have a lot of trouble sleeping and I take these Kroger sleep aid tabs but they don't work very well. my cousin has taken ambien and says it works. the problem is my mom won't take me to the doctor, so how do I get her to believe me? and once I'm there, how do I get the doctor to believe me?

Ask your Mom if you can try something different than Kroger sleep aid tablets. Since she's buying them for you she knows you do have a sleeping problem. I don't know how old you are but when I was a teenager my Dr. told me to try Benedryl or the store's generic version. Even though it's an allergy pill its main side-effect is sleepiness.

Another thing you can do is keep a Sleep Log/Diary. Write what time you went to bed, approximately what time you fell asleep, if you awoke during the night & for how long you were up, and how many hours of sleep you had during each night. Try it for 2-3 weeks then show it to your Mom.

Ambien is a powerful drug, usually used as a last resort for someone with sleep problems because of its side-effects. Sleepwalking, sleepeating, even sleepdriving have occurred in people who take it.
I hope this helps & that soon you will find yourself able to sleep through the night!

If your mom won't take you to the doctor, there really isn't a whole lot that you can do. You can try talking with your school nurse and/or guidance counselor, to see if they have any advice (or feel that you insomnia issues are serious enough to warrant medication).

If you are having problems sleeping though, you should consider other alternative than medications though - such as eliminating caffeine several hours before bedtime, eating a lighter dinner (too much food can make you feel bloated and make you uncomfortable - affecting your sleep), listen to soothing music, try aromatherapy (scents such as lavender, chamomile, neroli, sandalwood are very helpful for insomnia), also drinking some herbal tea (again chamomile is a good one of this) might help.

That Ambien is POWERFUL stuff, and you'll probably never get a R/x without convincing a psychiatrist that it's your last resort. A while back I had a nervous friend who thought she needed sleep-aids, but after spending a day in 'her world' - I saw that she had far deeper issues than sleep. It turned out she was bi-polar - and sleep aids we making her CRAZY! So try everything from more exercise to less TV before you go for drugs.

DONT get ambien.. It makes you act weird. I tried ambien when I was prescribed it and it made me do crazy things. It also made me depressed.

Eliminate any known causes of sleeplessness. Look into Valerian Root capsules. They are a natural, over-the-counter sleep aid found just about anywhere vitamins and supplements are found. They stink REALLY bad but have no taste. They aren't very expensive either...about $10. Research this for your own peace of mind. A pharmacist may tell you more about it and answer your questions at no charge. You should then have concrete information to take to your Mom in favor of getting them. Knowledge is power.
