How can I keep my dog from letting strangers pet her when I am not around?

Someone was just petting her through the fence and then dangling a shirt over the fence. She is really cute and gentle so I am afraid someone will try to steal her. Also she is not learning well enough from our older dog to bark at people and seem threatening.

I NEVER leave one of my 3 dogs outside-they run the risk of being stolen, poisoned, etc. Plus its neglectful. I';m betting your dog is happy to get attention from ANYONE if you leave her outdoors in the yard 24/7. Dogs are meant to be part of a "pack", and we humans ARE their "pack"! Some dogs just do NOT have more aggressive personalities, they DON'T bark or seem threatening no matter how much you want them to be. If you can't give that dog the attention and love it needs, if you can't keep it in the house, if you're that afraid it may be stolen outside but you do nothing about that but write to Ask, perhaps you're not the right kind of owners or home for her & should find her better people to care for her for the rest of her life..

We are at home all the time because I am home schooled and my mother does not go to work so we do spend a lot of time outside playing with both of our dogs. She is part of a pack because we have our older dog that she spends time with but because she is an older dog she cannot play with her like we can. She is inside the fence at all times which is three acres of land with tons of toys to keep her busy. I really just wanted to know how to teach her that not every human is safe. We also do not believe in having her sit on a cold floor stuck inside all the time when she can be outside where all animals belong playing and going where they want to.

I do not think it will be possible to teach a dog how to be threatening to people. She is friendly in nature and you should keep her locked up, if you think she might be stolen.

Just put a shock caller on Ur dog and put the trigger about 1 1/2-2 foot away from the fence so she can't get near the fence and when she does go by the fence to let someone pet her she gets shocked so she thinks it's the person hurting her.

Keep her inside when you are not at home

You can not change the nature of a dog. If you want her to be a guard dog, invest in guard dog training classes. However, it is unlikely that she will ever excel at it.
