running my first 1/2 marathon April 10th. I'm having problems with energy on long runs. What and when do I eat before the run to load up?

Make sure a few days leading up to the race you add a little extra fuel. Meaning add an extra snack, eat a few more carbs & don't run more than 7 miles, save energy for 1/2. Don't try new foods close to race day, it may ruin your run. Also time to try gels now, it may help boost energy during your long runs. Good luck & have fun.

You need some carbs to load up on some energy. Oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, tuna, bananas, oranges, nuts, peanut butter, etc. You might want to take a look at http://www.theharrier.com/marcbloomrunning/trn/45bestfoods.php to get some other ideas.
