10% means multipling by 0.1 .
If you had $10, multiply by 0.1.
You will get $1
That is the discount. If you want to have the total, subtract $1 from $10 and get $9.

10 cents off on a dollar
1dollar off on ten
10 on 100
100 on 1000 etc
1/10= one out of ten or 10%

10% of every dollar is .10cents. So count your dollars and take 10 cents off for each you will get your answer for .50 cents it is .05 cents. Hope you get it

A cake is cut exactly in 10 pieces.
One piece would be 10% of the total cake.
Or 1/10.
