Why do washing directions say to turn pants inside out before washing? Is it really necessary? (these are leisure pants)

When you wash them inside out you prevent fading especially jeans. This even makes a difference in clothes washed in cold water and if you hang clothes on the line instead of putting them in the dryer. Read more at http://safenaturaltips.com/cleaning/laundry.html.
