To begin with, speak to the people at your child's school to see if she might be eligible for special help. Ask if she qualified for an IEP (individual education program) under title 504 of the ADA (Americans with disabilities act). They will know exactly what you are talking about. If she qualifies, you have the right to these free services. Don't wait-- the earlier you get this started the better. They will take it from there. And again, these services are free.

Also, research the pediatricians in your area for ones that don't drug the kids. Good ones have classes to teach the kids how to recognize and deal with their symptoms and learn to assimilate with other children and become part of daily life.

Good luck!

Your doctor should be able to help you with telling you the best treatment for your child. Although you may not want to rely on drugs, it may be the best option. You can call 1-800-233-4050 which is the National Resource Center on AD/HD for additional information. Their website is http://help4adhd.org/aboutus.cfm

I am not sure what state you are living in. I am from Pennsylvania and have worked with parents. I would see if your state has Parents Involved Network. PIN are free advocates who makes sure your childs educational needs are being met. Does your child need an IEP - individualized education plan? Does your child need special school resources? I would really make sure your child is getting plenty of outside exercise. Decrease the amount of video time- Children and adults with ADHD need structure and routine. Children can benefit from picture schedules. There are plenty of books on parenting someone with ADHD- GOOD LUCK TO YOU
