Romans 8:1 1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[a] free from the law of sin and death. Yes, you must have faith, but if you believe what the scriptures say, then you can have assurance that you are forgiven. Now, that doesn't mean you should go and do the same things again and ask for forgiveness over and over. We must learn from our mistakes, and luckily God gives us that opportunity.
I'm not a super religious person, but I do believe that if you know you did something bad you have to say sorry to whoever you hurt and ask for forgiveness. You also need to believe in faith because that's all religion is in a sense. Putting faith in something bigger then yourself and hoping that your doing what's best after a bad situation.
We can know because He has promised it to those who believe on His Son: John 3:16-18 ?For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
