How many years of college is it to become a cardiologist?

I am interested in this field but I'm afraid most of my life will be wasted by the time I graduate. I'm very impatient so, how many years will it take?

This is a fascinating field of medicine. No one is ever too old to pursue an education. To become a cardiologist you must begin with an undergraduate degree (bachelors) in something like biology, chemistry or pre med. That will take a minimum of four years. You will then apply to medical school and based on your near perfect grades you will attend medical school for another 4-5 years. After this you will apply for a residency in cardiology; this is where you work as a Dr. under the direction of other physicians who specialize in the field of cardiology. Residency programs vary in length but I believe the specialty of cardiology lasts 6 years. If you begin straight out of high school you would probably be about 34 when you become a cardiologist.
