What does it mean if it feels like I can't breathe right?

I'm 18, and this has been going on for almost a year now. I AM breathing, the doctors said that I am getting enough air into my lungs, but it's hard to get a deep breath in. When I try to breathe a deep breath, I have to move/stretch or even sometimes fake yawn. So it constantly looks like I'm tired because I'm yawning every 5 minutes. It just feels like there is a heavy weight on my chest or someone is sitting on it. I've researched anxiety/panic disorders but doesn't that happen when you feel stressed out? I feel like this 24/7, I don't think it's possible for someone to feel stressed out everyday for almost a year (it will be a year in April). Can someone please give me an answer or give me a link to a website that will help me figure this all out, I really don't want to go to the hospital again. THANKS!

ps; this all started to happen when I was in my grandma and grandpas very small attic, so I don't know if that has some affect on how this all began.

When you feel like you can't breathe you need to remind yourself that your healthy as a horse! That everything's gonna be okay. Inhaling through your nose normally helps, and I found that when I distract myself I tend to forget what my problem was in the first place. Using that extra energy for some task you planned on getting done doesn't hurt either. DON'T let it rule your life. . .that's what I did for about two years. It was a fear of a fear sort of thing. I've come to accept that it's a part of me, and that I CAN over come it. . . without any medicine. I realized that no matter where your at, it can happen, so why let it stop you from getting where your going. Remember that your not the only one going through it, and if anything. . . I have learned much from my many challenges. It's like a ton pound block being lifted off your shoulder's once you face your fear, and realize that everything is, and will be all right.

It is something that I have had for years and am still struggling with everyday. It is most likely anxiety. When I first experience this, it was in Middle School. . . (I'm 16 now) It's a feeling you don't forget, and it's a feeling that you fear of having again. I've done tons of research about Anxiety as well. Not necessarily is it caused by something, but can be something that generally runs in the family. My Mom, and older brother suffer from it, and take Anti-Anxiety pills. I refuse to take any sorts of medicine for it. I believe it's all in our mind because it IS! I tend to do that yawning thing a lot. . . but it doesn't really help.

Shortness of breath has several causes like a blockage of the air passage in the nose, throat or mouth. If your heart is unable to pump blood to supply oxygen to the body, it could lead to short of breath. Lung disease and emotional distress like anxiety could also lead to difficulty in breathing. It is better if you visited another experienced medical doctor to have your whole body examined.
