The Sarah Dessen novels are phenominal! I love The tomorrow Girls series the titles are
1. Tomorrow Girls behind the gates
2. Tomorrow Girls run for cover
3. Tomorrow Girls with the enemy
4. Tomorrow Girls set me free

Also, Eragon is good, I'm reading it right now. I loved 2 of the Julie Johnston novels:
1. A Very Fine Line
2. Hero of Lesser causes
I also really liked
1.Eggs by Jerry Spinelli

3. Matched by: Ally Condie

Hi! I haven't read either, but Is the Longest Whale Song airing write now on the Discovery or Animal Planet Channels? I hope so. It seems I heard of it somewhere recently. And I have wanted to see War Horse. I just heard this morning it was up for Best Picture! YeAAA! I'm a strong believer that "the book" is always better than the movie, but if you think they worthy of each other, I still may see it. If not, I'm definately going to the used book store and buy it! Thanks for the good suggestions! I didn't ask the question but, thanks anyway!

Memoirs of a Geisha is a favourite of mine, very well written, first person, very well researched and true to Japanese culture, and it could pass as a true story very easily, though it isn't.

though generally i base my favourites on Authors, not books. in which case, Tamora Peirce for some teenage fantasy, Terry Pratchett for some hilarious fantasy, Jodi Piccoult for some interesting and controversial novels about right and wrong, and Tami Hoag for some extremely well written thrilling crime. Tami Hoag is by far my favourite author.

for a teenage girl i recommend Tamora Peirce, she writes mostly about girls and women fighting to prove that they are just as damn awesome as the boys. set in a medieval time with knights, kings, mages, ECT.

the rest of this answer is in the first comment of this answer. it isn't long, so please take the time to read it.

Report as
though if you love humor then Terry Pratchett works for most age groups 15 and above. Jodi Piccoult and Tami Hoag are for older readers, or readers with more mature tastes. for example, i am 15, yet my mum is always stealing my Tami Hoag and Jodi Piccoult to read. caution, Tami Hoag contains graphic text, such as sex scenes, murder, description mutilation of dead bodies(found mutilated, we don't read the mutilation scene.), swearing of all kinds, cop humor (offensive to some, such as calling a burnt body a "crispy critter"), ECT.

good luck finding a good book to read next. i recommend if you ask a question like this again you specify your age, gender, and genre preference. also, a list of your favourite books wouldn't hurt.
Report as
Thank you very much!!!! Your answer is very helpful! I love memoirs of a geisha(it is my favorite book too) and I love Jodi picoult! I think I am going to try Tami Hoag. I never heard about her but it looks very interesting. I am older but I like to try a little about everything. I love Robin Cook too. Thanks a lot for your time!!!! Sorry if I made mistakes, I am not a native english speaker.. :((( thanks again
Report as
i'm glad i could be of help! the last answer i gave about books to read was far too long... and i don't think anyone bothered to actually read it.
Memoirs of a Geisha is amazing isn't it!? (the movie was good, but lacking some character development, in my opinion)
Oh great! i only know one other person who enjoys Jodi Piccoult... my mum, after i forced her to read it.
Don't worry, although i'm only 15, i get funny looks from everyone who knows of the authors because i look so out of place. oh yes, Tami Hoag is not only one of those authors that you can't put down, but for me, the second i see a book of hers i don't own, i buy it ^^' you will find the majority of her novels in second hand book stores. i sure hope you do read at least one novel of hers, because if you like Jodi Piccoult, then i have a very strong feeling you will like Tami Hoag.

(also, sorry but something i noticed from other comments of yours, "red" is a colour, the colour of blood. "read" is the past tense, of reading.)
Report as
Iol!!! Thanks!!!! I really appreciate that you corrected me! I am not going to forget it!! :D the movie "memoirs of a geisha" is really beautiful with all the colors of the kimonos and it was made in Japan but it was a big mistake and I don't think it was fair, the main caracters Sayuri and her "teacher" are Chinese and not Japanese. Japanese people complained a lot about that. But I still love it and much more the book!!!! :))))
Report as
no problem!
oh yeah! i was wondering about that, i noticed that two of the actors names were obviously not Japanese. i was annoyed at Nobu having two arms :/ and Mameha (Sayuri's teacher) was supposed to have a very round face... and the dact that Sayuri didn't nickname the characters, like she does in the book. but yeah, i stil really enjoyed it :) and of course the book far more also!

if English is your second language, then i wouldn't recomend Jane Austin's novels to you. although i love her works, they are written in Old English.

True. For me, that's part of the beauty of it.
Report as
and i completely agree with that! for me too. but for amystone038, English isn;t her first language, she mention in a comment. and so, it would be difficult for her to understand much of it, slow going, and if i were in her shoes i would probably give up pretty quickly.

If you want a true story get Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell ( you tube him) he was a Navy Seal who four man team was ambushed in the hindu kush mountains in '05. He was the only survivor and endured a lot to do so.

Your very welcome! I HIGHLY recommend it! I would also see his YouTube videos, and tells a little of the story. His is now a motivational speaker talking about what he went through, how he dealt with it and how to relate to everyday life. The book is a little detailed with the injuries, as a warning. He is my HERO and follow him on Facebook.

I read Lance Armstrong story about his cancer. I am not big fan of this kind of sport but actually I learned a lot in the book. Since I read the book, I am one of his fan! True story too! But I want to check yours now! :)
Report as
There is a new book out that Marcus suggested we take a look at on his FB page- American Sniper by Chris Kyle, he has the most sniper kills in the Navy. I started to read some of the book, it's ok but no Lone Survivor. I'll have to check Lance's out too.
