I know this might not be considered a "HOME" but its the remedy that has always worked under the roof I live under, Try rubbing a good coat of Vicks Vapor rub on the bottom of your feet works very well , it also helped me when I was overseas serving my country in the Middle East during the winter months of the year and the PX. was out of anti histamines cold medication, believe me it DOES get pretty cold over there TOO ! ! ! Your coughing will STOP within 10 -15 mins. after rubbing Vicks Vapor rub on the BOTTOM of your feet and it also worked for many of the guys I passed that advice onto also. Good luck, Mike
The best remedy for dry cough raw onions, salt gargle, oregano, green tea with honey and aniseed tea. Certain medications can cause a dry cough, including blood pressure medications called ACE inhibitors. If you've battled the symptoms of a dry cough for longer than two weeks, it's highly suggested that you pay a visit to your doctor.

My mother always had me lean over the sink, make a tent over my head with a towel, and breathe in the steam. The other suggestion is to buy a steam vaporizer. You can get them at your local pharmacy for not much money.
Go to a doctor. All these home remedies are at best only as effective as the placebo effect and at worst, will allow your infection to progress to the point where you are endangering your life. Google Jim Henson and read about his death.
