Are tampons really flushable like the box says? I've always been told not to flush them so if they really are flushable then why not?

I don't really know I never flush them cuz I was told it would clog the pipes and that would just be awkward........

I don't think they are. You could try it at a public restroom :)

So someone else gets your mess?
That's kinda rude and disrespectful.

Not if you offer to clean it up.....unless its a complete jerk, then they deserve it. Plus, I doubt someone would ever really try it....I wouldn't.

It matters how bad your toilet is and if it clogs up much

Well if the box says, maybe you should try it at a public restroom a couple times and see what happens. Into you are completely sure they are flushable, then try it at your house. :)

I do but I think it depends on the sewage system.

Probably depends on how big the tampon is.

Don't flush them! Although they ARE technically flush able, it's really bad for your plumbing.

If you have a septic system instead of public sewer don't flush.

I've used Playtex for the past couple years, always flush them. I haven't clogged any toilets.

Yes, you can flush them. I flush mine always and haven't had any problems. (no stopped up toilets).

I've heard it only matters if there's a septic tank instead of municipal plumbing.

In general, they will flush down, BUT, they will catch on anything on the sewer pipes leaving your house ( eventually a very expensive plumber call) or make it down to the city sewer plant where they have to take out any solids from the sewerage before they treat and release it back into the environment. I have seen the huge collection of used tampons being separated out on conveyor belts to be disposed of separately (not a pretty sight). Avoid unnecessary plumbing calls and be kind to the environment; please do not flush tampons.
