What is the difference between the Account Number and IBAN( International Bank Account Number ) ?

I have the bank's name, address, account holder's name and full address, BIC (swift code), and IBAN.

I went to my bank to make a wire transfer to a German bank account, but they told me I still need the account number. I thought that the IBAN identifies the account number already, but my bank won't allow me to make the transfer without it.

By the way, I'm banking with Capital One.

I appreciate any help I can get. THX - Joseph

The international bank account number can be used to access a specific account of a client from various countries. However, most normal account numbers can be used within a specific area where the bank has branches.
