Why does my computer freeze after I put in more RAM

I put in a 1GB memory stick. I already have 256 MB in. Since I put the memory stick in the computer freezes!

Maybe your memory stick has a virus; that is possible. If you have maybe plugged it into a public computer (like at an library) before, it could have picked up the virus that way. Or maybe your computer is freezing because it needs to be cleaned out, and its struggling to read the memory stick because of it.
