No headphones go on your head and earphones go in your ear.

Earphones are 'buds' that go in your ear, and usually sound worse than over-the-ear headphones, which have room for better speakers. Apple white earbuds are an example, Beats are headphones.

No headphones are around the head earphones are just in your ears

Headphones are like headbands that just cover your ears.
Earphones are separate and go into your ears.
