Eat spicy food. Take hot/steamy showers. Use a humidifier sparingly (they can be bad for allergies). I actually put icy hot on my chest because it is very strong and the scent is far away enough from my face not to burn. However, if you use the icy hot route, test it on a small area of skin to make sure you are not too sensitive.
Some of the home remedies for loosen mucus in chest and throat includes using a vaporizer or humidifier in the room where you spend most of your time. You can also apply it at night while sleeping. Another remedy is drinking plenty of clear fluids like fruit juices, tea, or simply water.

honey under the nose and eat it to increase breathing. head over hot water , or a steamy shower, mint is good, there are so many. vicks, A5-35, HEAT, working out, sweating from bundling up. i think if you breathed in thyme juices it would kill the bacteria
