Joseph Priestley invented the first soda using carbonated water in 1767. This beverage was simply termed soda water.

In 1871, the official trademark was issued for ‘Lemon's Superior Sparkling Ginger Ale’. But in 1880, Charles Alderton from Waco, Texas started marketing Dr. Perpper, the flavored soft drink which is known as the first soda.
