Why do pears have that weird gritty texture?

Report as

The gritty particles in pears are caused by silica and are produced in the sclereid cells of the tissue layer called the sclerenchyma. Most plants have different textures on them depending on the climate conditions of the places where they are grown. they always have a texture that protects them from wild animals and insects.
