In my opinion, 9/11 was the biggest social, political and economic event in modern history. Socially, it brought America together, further solidifying us as a proud nation. It made us all step back as well and take a deep look at our neighbors, the cashier at the grocery store, even the man sitting next to us on a train or airplane. 9/11 brought with it an immense hatred for Muslims, although most Muslims mourned with us on that fateful day. Politically, 9/11 gave Bush the reason he needed to invade a country that only his father had been brave enough to start war in. While our forces did find Saddam, Bush fell behind on his promises to find weapons of mass destruction. When that was not enough, he used his political clout to invade another country, looking for Bin Laden. Lastly, 9/11 was the downturn of our economy. People quit flying for fear their plane would be the next one ran into a field or government building. When the airline industry started tanking, so then did exporting and importing of goods, aircraft maintenance, etc. The price of oil shot up and so did gas prices. People lost jobs due the downturn in air travel and the overall economy began to suffer.
