Does a judge really take into consideration the letters from friends and family for a defendant before sentencing?

Report as

Yes, a judge does take the character letters written by family and friends into consideration when making his/her decision on a defendants sentencing. Some other things that are taken into consideration are the severity of the crime, effect on the victim and the past offenses.

If the accused has been out on bail for over 6 months and has made considerable strides toward being a normal citizen ie.full time employment bank account etc. will the Judge likely give him a chance on probation?

Thank you I'm worried for him ...any comments on my other Question?

I hope not. The sentence should fit the crime not the emotions or opinions of family and friends. That's almost scary!
