does peanut butter go bad

Report as

Yes, peanut butter can go bad. If the jar is sealed and unopened, it can last about 6 to 9 months. Go here to see other things on how long peanut butter can last: http://shelflifeadvice.com/condiments-herbs-spices-spreads/spreads/peanut-butter.

Yes, but its shelf life is so long it can reach up to months at room temperature without spoiling or become contaminated by bacteria or fungi because of its low moisture and high oil content even if its container is opened.

Peanut butter has a very long shelf life but can spoil. However it must be contaminated to go bad. Often it separates not spoiled. Simply stir it up and use.

Peanut butter does not go bad, even when not refrigerated. However, that is not to say it will always taste good if it has been open a long time. It does get stale.

Peanut butter won't go bad like perishable food will. It will, however, go "rancid," meaning it will have an off flavor. If this happens, it should be discarded. Keeping it refrigerated is highly recommended.
