The Mayo Clinic recommends that the average person should limit their intake to 2,300 mg a day. If you re over 51 or are black the clinic suggests you limit your daily salt intake to 1,500 mg due to the risk of other health issues.
You should not have more than 1,500 (or so) mg of sodium each day. In some cases, someone may need up to 2,300mg of sodium.
You should have about 1500 milligrams of sodium per day. Unfortunately, the average amount of sodium Americans consume is 3500 daily.
