can you eat mango skin

Report as

Yes, you can eat mango skin, but many people don’t like the taste. The skin is a good source of roughage, which helps to clean out your digestive tract. But beware, as some people are highly allergic to the skins. If you tend to have food allergies, avoid it.

Is it only a rash that can effect you? I ate a mango the other day and the next day I woke up lost in my own home. My kids thought I was having a stroke. The doctor said it was like a block. A major brain fart they said. I wonder if it had anything to do with the mango skin.

Mango skin can be eaten, but is generally not recommended. Mango skin contains a chemical in it -- urushiol -- that is similar to the chemical in poison ivy and can cause allergic reactions in some people.

Mango skin is very tough. The peel of a mango contains urushiol which is the chemical in poison sumac and poison ivy that cause a skin reaction in some people. It is not encouraged to eat mango skin.
