Is being gay a sin?

Report as

Ya know, this is a very controvertial subject. Most radical christians believe that your going to burn in hell and all that but I believe that God made all of us.....and God loves us. And if it's a sin...isn't God a loving God? And isn't God a forgiving God? And Judge not...lest ye be judged...throw that one at the Anyone. Most radical christians go around preaching and judgeing and forgetting that they are not the judge and jury .....God is. How can you go through life without loving....wheather it be same sex, or opposite sex. That would be a very lonely life. Almost just an existence. God wants all of us to Love one Another. I believe that If you are gay or straight.....you are still one of Gods children....aren't we all! And I don't believe your acting against anyone. It's your life.

Sorry if it was to Long

yeah, but there's a difference between judging and seeing that someone's actions do not line up with Scripture and pointing it out to them. The Bible makes it clear that homosexuality is a sin, and that God detests it. Obviously, you don't understand who God is if you think he loves everyone no matter what
Report as
Self- you are full of yourself. Your bible is not truth for every human being.
Report as
Oh, but it IS truth for every human being. Truth is truth, not what you WANT truth to be.
Report as
You are mistaken. There are many paths and many experiences. Thank goddess I don't have to follow your line of thinking.
Report as
you better hope that your mythical "goddess" will save your butt, because you've obviously been raised in a delusional family
Report as
You know nothing about me or my family. Wouldn't your God be angry at your words?
Report as
absolutely not. Jesus criticized many people because of their delusional thinking. I was just hoping I could get people to consider that perhaps their religion is wrong. If we all accepted the religion that felt right to us, or that we'd been raised in, we'd all believe in different things. All religions contradict one another, and only one can be right. Which one is it? That's the question we all need to ask ourselves and we better have solid reasons for why we believe what we believe.
Report as
I have solid reasons. I don't accept that we ate here to follow one train of thought or change " delusional" thinking. You do not qualify as an expert in my eyes.
Report as
please make sure your reasons are ridiculously solid, because it's increasingly critical! Oh, haha I'm definitely not an expert. I'm not some old Theologian in a study with stacks of Christian books on my desk, I'm just a 16 year-old kid in my room ;)
Report as
Well than child- you don't have enough life experience to lead anyone anywhere.
Report as
You do not need 50 years of life experience to understand that the Bible is historically accurate and has no contradictions. Which by the way, you still haven't pointed out a contradiction in the Bible, which tells me that you haven't looked into it, or else you'd either believe, or have a very good reason not to.
Report as
You can infer anything you'd like. If you feel it necessary to " win" feel free, again. You are still a child with no life experience yet. Gay people are here, they are loved, they are entitled to the same rights everyone else has and in no way should they be moving targets of religious judgement.
Report as
Well, the Bible's view on the matter is very different. You can believe what you like, but if I were you, I'd feel very insecure knowing that I had no real reason to not believe in the Scripture.
Report as
You aren't me. You are you. Hence, my point. If I were you I stop basing my judgement of others on a book of fiction. But hey, that's your job, who am I to judge?( As hypocrites are fond of saying. )
Report as
You're judging me by telling me not to judge. Don't you think your goddess with give you a "stern talking to"? hahaha If it IS a work of fiction, there'd definitely be contradictions within, and you cannot find a single one!

It is my opinion that it is a sin. A woman was made for a man in terms of anatomy. A guy was designed to fit a woman not a guy for a guy or a woman for a woman. The back door is an exit not made for anything else.

What I was taught was that you can't do anything about what you feel, so being gay in the sense that you feel an attraction to your same sex is not a sin, but it becomes a sin when you act on it. Personally, I try to keep an open mind & not judge, because I know some wonderful people who are gay, as well as some not-so-wonderful people who are straight.

I'm trying to get people to see the flaws in their thinking, that's all. We are called to be salt and light to the world, which is definitely lost in darkness.
Report as
Than why does the judgement of so many feel more like " salt" in wounds?
Report as
A lot of people here are claiming to believe in God, yet their thinking is contrary to God's Word. I'm trying to point out to them their inconsistency so they may be able to grow in wisdom. It's not all "peace and love". Jesus said that he came to bring "not peace, but a sword", because he knew that the truth would devide. For those who do not believe in the Bible, I'm asking for them to look into it and try to prove the Bible false, that they may see that there is, in fact, an overwhelming amount of evidence supporting it. I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings, but keep in mind that even Jesus offended many people by challenging them on their thinking. That's all. Hope you decide to look into it :)
Report as
I believe you are wrong. The Universe, God, Goddess whatever you would like to call it runs on a vibration of love and kindness. I don't believe in your version of an angry God with a sword. I'm sorry. No offense but I never will. Religion is for people who fear hell after death, spirituality is for those who have lived through it.
Report as
well if you're not willing to be objective then there's nothing I can do. Good luck with your "vibration of love and kindness" because I know with absolute certainty that we will all be acountable to God. I'm curious what you'll say when he asks you why you weren't objective with the evidence he gave of his existence.
Report as

Sorry i dont read anything that doesnt catch my attention cuz II dont even understand half of it Lol
Report as
I think he / she will welcome me- and give you a stern talking to for pretending you know it all. I'm bored debating with you. I'm moving on.
Report as
Yeah, and how'd you come to that conclusion, by feeling the "vibration of love and peace" that told you so?! If you're right, then I get a "stern talking to". If I'M right...well, I think we all know what'll happen then. Who do you think is right? the one who bases everything off of personal "vibrations", or the one who bases it off of objective evidence?
Report as
Religion is not evidence.
Report as
Hey, you're absolutely right for once! It's not! And human emotions are constantly changing, making them the last thing you want to base your religion off of. That's why you need to ask yourself, "If this really happened, wouldn't there be evidence to support it?" and look into it. It is the evidence you find that leads you to a certain "belief" or "religion". Evidence exists inside the Bible, and outside of the Bible. All I'm asking is that you look into it and see for yourself.

It's personal I think. I think it's cruel to say gay people are sinners, ever done something that doesn't feel natural to YOU?
Everyone is different, the thing is to just worry about yourself and what makes YOU happy. GOD is the only judge, NOT his followers. If you have peace with GOD then you shouldn't worry about PEOPLE.
Some of those responses are why I'm starting to really hate and be angry all the time. There is no one way for living life.

God's love for us is unchanging and unconditional. God hates sin, not His children. God loves us in spite of our sins. That's why He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins.
Report as
Verne50: God does not cast the sin into hell, but the sinner. There are many examples in the Scriptures where God does NOT love someone because of their sin. You believe God's love is "unconditional"? Out of curiosity, how did you come to that conclusion?
Report as
Self: Let me clarify. I did not say that God loves us "because" of our sins. He loves us "in spite" of our sins. According to the bible, ALL have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 That's where Jesus comes in. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes upon Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16. God knew that because of our sinful nature that we could not save ourselves. Jesus was the sacrifice that took our sins to the cross. That is why we pray daily and ask God to forgive us. We are not perfect. God does not cast all sinners into hell. If that were true, then there is no hope for any of us. Only the sinners that reject Jesus and do not ask forgiveness for their sins will be cast into hell. I hope this helps my friend.

Report as
I agree with all of that 100%, the only issue I have is that you said that "God's love for us is unchanging and unconditional. God hates sin, not His children". My concern is that a lot of people use Jesus' sacrifice as a cover-up for their sins, as if they can do whatever they want because Jesus has already paid the price for what we deserve. However, the Word mentions some sins that are "unforgivable" in God's sight. For example, Jesus says in Mark 3:29, "But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin". If we, his children, commit these sins, he will then, and perfectly justly so, remove his love for us. Therefore, his love for us is not unconditional. I hope that makes sense :)
Report as
It does make sense to a degree. I do have a response to that but I need to doublecheck certain parts of the response. I'll get back to you.
Report as
So let me ask this; do you both believe gay people should live their life as a lie? Marry and have children and pray away the gay? Would this lie be fair to a spouse? Or perhaps a lifetime of celibacy is in order. It doesn't seem to be working for the catholic church. Could either of you realistically live this way? Do you both believe by prayer you could change whom you are attracted to? I very much doubt it.
Report as
I believe that if you've let yourself come to the point where you're attracted to the oppostite gender, you obviously need some sense knocked into you. If that were to happen to me, I'd pray to God that he would make my heart right and I'd be able to overcome my sinful nature. God is omnipotent, he is capible of ANYTHING. That's why God says, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives ; he who seeks finds".
Report as
Self: I think you mean "same" gender don't you? Anyway, I agree with you that anyone experiencing those feelings who eagerly seek God can be delivered from those feelings. Will power and faith must be strong though. In answer to bellydncr's question, No I would not be able to live in the way you described. I also would not even consider marriage until the issue was resolved.
Report as
yeah sorry, my bad. I meant "same" gender haha

Have some sense knocked into you?! That is horrendous. Ask anyone who remembers Mathew Sheppard.
Report as
The story of Matthew Sheppard is very unforntunate. However, I believe that he was wrong for being gay, and even the good qualities he had don't change that fact.
Report as
Unfortunate? It was a hate crime. Murder is not unfortunate.
Report as
I said the STORY is unfortunate. It is. It's also unfortunate that Matthew had to commit a sin that, unless he repented, would cause him to be dispised by God.
Report as
Despised! How very Christian of you. I'm sure you prob embarrassed some of your fellow Christians with that one. I rest my case.
Report as
Christianity is, in my belief, the most twisted of all religions. You obviously have never read the Bible, as is no surprise to me, as you are unwilling to consider any other religion than that with which you were raised. It says in Proverbs: "All man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord". Matthew may have "seemed" innocent in his ways, but God knows the heart. God does not take sin lightly, and homosexuality is, indeed a very serious sin. You know nothing of Christianity. God isn't that grandfather person who smiles when you do something wrong.
Report as
But I'm done trying to warn you, for it says in Titus 3:10-11, "Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them. You may be sure that such a person is warped and sinful; they are self-condemned."
God help us all. This is a very dark hour and great delusion has been poured out. I can only pray that you do what is right and consider the solid evidences God left of his existence.
Report as
Self: Well said. True Christianity is not a religion. It is a relationship. Religion is man made. Relationship is made between us and God. It is through that relationship with Christ that we come to understand the complexities of His Word as well as you do. Good job!
Report as
I don't believe in Hell or in your version of god. I know that is beyond your comprehension but try to grasp the concept. Your fairytale does not mean truth to me. Goddess bless you both.

"God" says it is a sin, but i believe that you should be allowed to be how you want to be. and if "god" doesnt like it, then he should use his miracle power or whatever to fix it. You can see by the answers that you got that the ones who straddle the fence are . I do not judge, but words are truth. They are not following GOD'S law.You should face the fact that you are gay.I believe a person is born that way and 1% tend to just explore the ideal.Good works with being gay will not get you to Heaven.By professing and believing that JESUS died for your sins will.Living the life of a Christian does not include being homosexual.Good works will not get it done either.Just because you may not believe it's a sin .their is a higher being than us that we will have to answer to.Yes he is a loving GOD.but he paid the price of dying for our sins.Think of just what he went through. Then decide is burning in hell is worth it.The choice is yours to make.

There is no such thing as Hell, in my opinion trying to pray away the gay is a living hell.

In technical terms its said to be a sin, but i dont see it that way. if you feel attracted to members of the same sex then follow your feelings and definitely if youve found someone you love.

" Where there is love there is no sin" - Gandhi. The bible was written by man and it's time to let go of archaic beliefs that condemn others. Love who you love. Have no shame, have no fear. Those that judge can live the way they would like- just leave the rest of us alone.

"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor *homosexual offenders* nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swinderlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” It's right there in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

So should we stone people- the bible says we should. Or maybe keep slaves- the bible says that too.
Report as
dude, that's what the Bible says. Do you believe in the Bible?
Report as
In the Old Testament, there are examples of God commanding that the sinful and rebellious people in the Israelite community be stoned. This shows how severe God’s hatred of sin is. There will be harsh punishment for the rebellious. It does not suggest that we go around and stone people. Also, the Bible does not support slavery, it only tells slaves to obey their masters and goes on to say that “anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong". Elsewhere, it says that adulterers, perverts, *slave traders*, liars, and perjurers are contrary to the sound doctrine.

Blah blah blah. Use your brain not sentences out of a book.

Listen, I don't really care what you want to believe. Yeah, it'd be nice if our sins had no consequences, but that's not the case. The Bible is true, not because I have some subjective feeling that tells me that, but because of countless objective evidences. Look into it, that's all I'm saying. I looked into it and I can say with absolute certainty that what I believe is true, both on a historical and scientific basis.
Report as
No thank you. I don't find it objective at all. Perhaps you need to look into other philosophies.

You're wickedly obnoxious. That's for sure. Use your own brain. You know you wanna.
Why do you think all those crusaders burned all the ancient civilizations documents upon arrival? Because it was too hard to convert them to Christianity? Why'd they wanna convert them? Because that is what right? No. It was because they were elitist jerks!

Don't you ever wonder what was in all those books? Maybe proofs against all your supposed truths.
Report as
Oh, I've spent many years studying other religions, and found them all to be instable with a severe lack of evidence. But since you guys have all the answers, how do you believe life began?

haha oh, I'm sure you really believe that :P but in all seriousness, atheists don't have an answer to the question, because they always say that the earth came from this or that. Well, were'd "this or that" come from? How'd it all start? But with God, it's different, because he is seperate from the universe. He's not made of molecules like us. He was also a God who left endless evidences of his existence

I do. Don't brush off Pastafarian beliefs simply because you're jealous your fancy bible god didn't come up with all of FSM's awesome ideas first.
Don't also especially because FSM's noodly appendage can move through physical matter with ease. He's more than likely altered all of your "evidence & data".

hahahahaha I'm seriously just cracking up laughing right now! you may not know what you're talking about when it comes to Christianity, but you're hilarious!

What evidence is there for it's existence?
Report as
Shhhmoonbeam I am sorry to deliver bad news to you but I fed the FSM's noodly appendage to my dog last month and he had diarrhea for a week. On the serious side, it is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard in my life! I'll have you know that my God is REAL! The evidence that I have for you that He exists is that I see Him working every day in people's lives. He has been with me and working in me all my life! Through the prayers of a loving family He healed me of mumps and scarlet fever combined when I was a small boy! I don't need visual proof that He exists. I feel His presence in me constantly. It is my sincere prayer that you would be willing to have that same experience while we all still have time. My God is a loving and forgiving God to those who will receive Him. But be warned, His word says He will not be mocked. I pray that He has mercy upon you.
