I do about 200-220 every other day (bust 100 out in the morning) sometime a little more *50 rest two mins 50 rest two mins then 30. Then I do it again in the afternoon. Theres different push-ups you can do (standard, Military, diamond, and dive bomber oh yeah and the hated one handed) I do this with my crunches too *no need for expensive machines just hard work!
Push up is a good exercise, everyday exercise makes us healthy and strong. But if you want to build up muscles to your body, you will need to go to a gym.Gym instructors can give you tips to have great chest.
If you want a good push-up regimen then do "pyramids". A normal set would be two pushups, then four, then eight, then sixteen etc. Go up as far as you can, then go back down to two. You'll notice progress quickly by how far up the pyramid you can go. Push ups are, although, a good way to work on triceps more than chest. Do bench press, skull crusher curls with a single dumbbell, and butterfly exercises.
Only do them every other day. Your muscles need 48 hours between strength training to repair. When you strength train, there are minuscule tears in the muscle, which when allowed to repair themselves properly, really build those muscles up nicely.
My grandfather was in WW2 and he was a drill Sargent and boy was he BUFF. HUGE, absolutely huge.(This is either during, before, or after the war) He would wake up around 6am and do 50-150 (somewhere around there) push ups and he'd do that before he went to bed. I think 50 is good though.
