How Do I Take the Salty Taste out of Soup?

There are two ways to get rid off the salty taste in soup. One method is to make an additional batch of soup -- one made without salt -- and combine the two soups, which will lessen the presence of salt. The other method is to add a a couple of peeled potatoes, cut in half, to the soup and cook for one hour. When you remove the potatoes, the excess salt should be removed, too.

Contrary to the old wives tale, slices of potato will not remove salt from a soup. Adding sugar won't work either.The only way to fix a dish that is too salty, is to add more of the other ingredients to try to even out the percentages.
