How do I get my insurance company to approve the brand name medication prescribed by my doctor?

It makes no difference at all if the medication is brand name or generic.

It is exactly the same medicine and you are wasting your time and that of your doctors, pharmacy and insurance company to be fighting over that.

I does make a difference, as the neurologists in my area at least, have had problems with the generic Keppra that are aleviated when the patient is switched to the name brand.

To get your insurance company to approve a brand name medication, your doctor will have to notify them why that particular brand is necessary for your treatment. Most insurance companies will cover the generic brand of otherwise disapproved brand names, so you may have to use the generic medicine instead. The generic brands are just as good as the brand names, they just cost less.

I have been on generic Keppra for nearly 2 months now and my seizures are not under control and are worsening. My Dr hasfiled all the necessary forms with my insurance company, and they have approved the name brand Keppra, but at a cost of nearly 10 times what my co-pay is supposed to be for name brand drugs. It is something I am unable to pay for.

If your seizures are not under control, the brand name of the same medicine will not have any different effect. You need to talk to your doctor and try different medications or combinations of different medications.

Your pharmacy will have to inform it with your insurance company
