When's a good time to work out? Morning or evening or does it matter?

I'm into working out but need ideas on how or when's a good time to do it? is morning better? or evening??

Report as

Morning is better. It speeds up your metabolism for the entire day, which gives you a better chance of losing or keeping off weight.

you can work out any time of the day. i have done all three and all three the same day in the day. i like a mid-day or early evening, knowing that my diet is integrated (70% of the quotient) with the overall plan. so a protein drink after a lunch workout or a salad after a pm workout. most of my peers did the am work out. it just depends on how you want to approach and how much time you have.

Morning because as you go through the day you can kind of get rid of pain from working out and not have to deal with it while you sleep or the next morning.

You should most definitely workout in the morning! When you stretch your muscles in the morning, you will stretch them while you go through your day as well. This will lengthen the strain on your muscles, therefore having a more affective workout.

Well I work at a warehouse in the evenings and I get tons of exercise there. The only problem I run into is that I can't go back to bed right after work because your body was just moving a million miles an hour so it takes some time to cool down. One more thing that you might want to take note of, you'll get hungry, very hungry. I know people say you shouldn't eat before bed time but if you work out so much you'll need to eat and if you're like me, a protein shake just doesn't cut it. So LONG STORY SHORT, IF YOU CAN HELP IT, GO FOR THE MORNINGS.

In the morning before you eat. You will burn the calories your body stored overnight, then eat a high protein breakfast AFTER your workout to carry you a fibrous lunch, then a very light dinner.
Remember; Eat like a king at breakfast, like a commoner at lunch, and a pauper at dinner.
No fast or junk food! That will only make you lazy and you won't want to workout.

You can work out any time of day, but I prefer morning because nobodies up yet to get in the way of me exercising. I always find that if I exercise after work, my family or things come up to prevent me from working out. So I like the peace and quiet of the mornings and then I can get on with my day knowing my workout is behind me.

I actually cut back from 5 days to three days and gained more muscle and lost more fat. You need more rest than you do being in the gym, unless your extra days are simply for cardio.

in the morning, because that way your body doesnt have anything to burn through. Work out before you eat in the morning, so if you wake up at 6 work out at 6:15 and eat at 6:30. If you work out at night your body has to burn through All the food you ate thought the day

Odog is right on it here...after fasting all night a morning work out is best for speeding metabolism and putting your body in a position to burn fat stores for energy all day...just make sure you eat after...a proper mix of protein and carbs...this would also be the only time of the day to have simple carbs...very important to replace glycogen that you burnt up during exercise

I think it depends on your schedule and what you prefer. Just remember, it's probably not a good idea to work out after a heavy meal. I would say, "Do what suits you best, under your unique circumstances. You are the best judge of what is best for you."

Best time to work out is in the morning. This is when you are the strongest in your day. You should never work out when you're tired.

Pick a time you can reliably stick to without getting interrupted. If you are single, that's probably early morning (6am). If you have kids, it might be very early morning (5am). I'd argue the most important aspect of fitness is consistency - everything else is an optimization. AB

First, and most important, any time as long as you do it. One thing, make sure you have some glucose in your blood for energy. An hour after the workout, the big question, do you feel better?

Both would be ideal, but of you can do it either time the morning has way more benefits than working out later in the day although even later is better than none

First thing in the morning is without a doubt the best time. Especially on an empty stomach other than a protein shake such as pro complex. It's even better if your trying to lose weight or cut muscle. You'll see a huge difference in a short amount of time going from evenings to mornings, guaranteed!

Morning is a great time. Make sure to have a small meal before you start. About half an hour before. This starts your metabolism and helps burn weight faster. After you finish, get some protein In you. Preferable 20 mins after. This goes for all workouts. Mid day and evenings are fine too. I workout at night and give myself two hrs rest and refueling before sleeping. It is actually good for your body to mix it up a bit. When you get stuck in routines your body will start to store fat again. Stress is a big factor in weight retention as well. So be hpappy!

If it,s a matter of work out or not work out, then whatever time you CAN workout is the best time! Having said that, I agree that mornings are generally best for the reasons already mentioned, but as long as you,re consistent with your workout routine you,ll be okay.

I've always heard morning is best because exercising speeds up your metabolism and it may be hard to get to sleep at night. Exercise mornings or early in the day so your body has time to slow down before bedtime. Good luck. I'm starting an exercise program soon and understand how tough it can be and how much discipline it takes.

It depends on when you last ate. without the proper foods, your working against yourself. your muscles need the nutrients that a balanced meal provides and time for the digestive system to finish. morning or early evening are the most logical times.

I have to agree with the morning workout because it does boost your metabolism but make sure you can do it without rushing and if you have access to a steam room after the workout do some stretching in there, it will help cut down your recovery time .

There are many factors and reasons for workouts at different times of the day or evening, and in truth it really all depends upon your goals, you as an individual and your body's response, and practicality.

Having said that: 1) Be sure to get high quality protein into your body ideally no later than 15 minutes post workout, even if just an aerobic workout without resistance training, and absolutely if weight training. 2) Be sure to drink alkalinized water during any workout. 3) Adopt Slow Burn training techniques more often than not with your weight or resistance training. 4) Mix up your routine and workouts; this keeps the body from expectation and slowed results.

Whole grain sources of protein are far better than meat based sources. Diet is critical to quality results. "Forks over knives" is better for quality muscle and of course general health. [See http://www.forksoverknives.com]

One more thing: Some minor short timed cardio (like 5mins) just before bed can improve sleep and allow your body to burn fat calories whilst you sleep. A technique many pro body builders use to achieve faster results in lowering body fat.

Morning, because that's when you lose the most calories. Also after your workout you can weigh yourself in the morning five minutes after you wake up, but during that it's best to go to the washroom to do your duty (if you have to) your stomach is empty, still have time brush your teeth or do other part of your daily morning routine. Hope this helps! :)
