Solve the following system. x - y = 4 x + y = 8

Please help me solve it, my homework is due tomorrow

Report as

Solve it by substitution. x-y = 4, that can be changed into x = y+4. Plug (y+4) in for x in the other equation, so (y+4) + y = 8. Combine like terms and get 2y = 4. Therefore, y = 2.

Since y = 2, plug 2 in for y in the other equation. x - 2 = 4. Therefore, x = 6
