What can I do for fun with my elderly Mom?

My Mom has trouble walking. My Dad died last year and she is sinking into a depression. I have fun with her but I need some ideas on where to go and what to do.

It would be nice if you and your mother could be part of a friendly group...

1. Is there a local book club?
2. Are there any interesting day tours you could sign up for?
3. When my mother was alive, we took a day excursion on an old-fashioned steam train.
4. In fact, Amtrak...an overnight train trip for shopping or sight-seeing?
5. How about a bridge club, or a group that plays pinochle?
6. Organize an afternoon movie at your/her home, with a few friends invited for brunch or afternoon tea.
7. Sometimes the local newspaper will publish an annual list of local organizations...Master Gardeners, Toastmasters, etc. - perhaps look those over for activities of interest.

Look for things that will help your mother feel a sense of completeness or honoring of her life:

A. Write down some favorite family remembrances together, publish them in a little book through the local copy shop or something...pass the booklet out to family and friends.

B. Look over the family photos, assemble them into an album. Better yet, gather up some of the photos, and you can publish them quickly with captions through on online site like blurb.com, and invite other family members over to receive them.

Wow! Great stuff. Makes my day at the beach look a bit threadbare.

Take her in a road trip ! Let her see a new place & new people... That would definitely keep her mind busy & happy ! But first give her a red rose and make a note that says - A beautiful rose for another beautiful rose ... P.s I love you mom ! Your the most gorgeous when you smile :..)

She might enjoy a picnic the beach, but you'll need to take a folding chair if her legs are bad.

If you're not within reach of a beach, maybe in a park?
