You need to be completely honest on the reason for the break-up and avoid blaming anyone. Explain that there is nothing wrong with him; you just do not feel a strong enough connection on which to base a relationship. Also, avoid making any judgments about him or yourself. As much as you would like to be polite, make it very clear that the relationship is over to avoid awkward situations.

You can say this, "hey..things are not really working out, I think we should break up" Make sure you have friends behind you(as far away as you want) so you can turn away from him and walk to them(this is if your going to do it at school)
I don't think that's possible. The only way his feelings are not going to get hurt is if he didn't care to begin with. Breaking up, by definition, always hurts someone's feelings. All you can really do is minimize the damage. Be honest and straight forward.
