how do you do a fishtail braid

Report as

Start by parting your hair down the center and grabbing a one-inch section of hair starting at the right side of your forehead. Twist away from your face. Using a comb, separate a 1/2-inch section below the first segment. Twist away from your face and combine it with the first segment. Continue by adding 1/2-inch sections along your hairline until you reach your neck. Use a bobby pin or clip to hold your hair in place at the name of your neck. Repeat this process for the left side of your hair. Once you've reached the nape of your neck again, unclip the right side of your hair. But keep both sides separated. Continue by pulling a 1/2-inch section of hair from the right side into the left section. Then, pull a 1/2-inch section of hair from the left and pull it into the right section. Repeat until complete. Finish the look with an elastic band.

The fishtail braid is also popularly regarded as the Fishbone or Herringbone braid. First, part your hair into two large sections. Then put a thin strand from the outside of one part and add it to the opposite section. Repeat this on the other side, and alternate the process from side to side until you reach the lower end of your hair.

To make a fish tail braid, you'll need to divide your hair into two equal sections. Secondly, you'll need to hold the right hand section in your right hand. With your left hand, take a thin strand of hair from the outside of the lefthand section and cross it over.
