I have brown hair and want to dye it blonde, if I used hair color from the store would it make my hair blonde?

Go to a professional. It's worth it.

It could turn your hair blonde. Stay away from any color, that has ash in it. This color will turn it red. The lighter blonde you go, the better it will look. The darker your hair color is, the lighter blonde you need to use.

What? Ash isn't red... Ash has a green base which counter acts red... Violet counter acts yellow. Look at a color wheel.

I used an ash dye one time and it turned my hair greyish.

If you have lighter hair or are covering highlites it will grab the ash, but not on brown like the question asker specified.

Yes, it will make your hair orange. If you have dye on there it will be even worse

Go get professional highlites, you will be much happier

It will not necessarily make your hair orange.

Your right, depending on the brown she has it will turn it anywhere from red to yellow! I fix color everyday, trust me in what it will turn. Even blondes can look yellow without highlites to break it up, or toner to cancel out the unwanted warm tones.

Maybe in some cases but with my own personal experience from going from brown to blonde many times it has never turned orange or anything resembling orange the worst that has happened is that it didn't go as light as I wanted it to.

Everyone sees color differently, but I very often see brassy orange gross at the roots, medium gold on the shaft and light ends so people say, "it looks okay" when in reality it doesn't, especially from a professional standpoint. Not to mention that the ends are probably trashed from overlapping color.

If u go to many shades from ur natural shade of brown to blonde without stripping it first it will turn an ashy green color. I suggest u go gradual to blonde. Start w a dark blonde n work ur way up. Otherwise go to a professional.

It will not turn orange and it will not turn green unless you do something freakishly wrong or already have those colors in your hair. Depending on how dark it is, it may take a few tries for it to turn blonde. I do agree though, that you should go to a professional and start with highlights and gradually add more. Otherwise your hair will be so fried.

Hair color from a box is only a 20 to 40 volume peroxide. That means you will get a maximum lift of 2-4 levels. I'm telling you, I am a pro. I fix color everyday at $100 an hour, and if she has brown hair and puts box dye on it it's gonna be orange, brass, yellow, and ugly.

Maybe it turns yellow if you spend $100 on a hairdresser who doesn't know what she's doing. I've used box dye on my hair many many times from various shades of brown, even reds and pinks and it has never turned orange. Maybe you're just doing it wrong.

It's not ME, who is doing it wrong. I am talking from 23 years if experience behind the chair on what people do to their own hair.
I get paid $100 an hour to fix peoples hair who screw it up with box dye. They dont walk out of my salon with anything but perfect! 8)

And your reds were probably pinking or purple... That's what I see a lot of. Box dyes are just "off" on their coloring because as a pro, I can mix different families of color to achieve the desired color.
