The length of time that alcohol will stay on your breath depends on what you were drinking and for how long. If it was just a couple of drinks the smell should go away within an hour or 2.

Alcohol stays on breath for twenty-four to forty-eight hours. However, you can get rid of the smell by chewing mint flavored gums or candies, gargling mouth wash, brushing tongue and teeth and eating foods with strong aroma. Alcohol will stay on a person's breath for a few hours. This also depends on the person's metabolism, and whether or not they chew gum, or brush their teeth.
