Heart murmur is extra heart sounds that are produced when a turbulent blood flow occurs. It can be heard only through a stethoscope by auscultation. It can be caused by narrowing or leaking of valves or presence of abnormal passages which blood flows. Heart murmurs can be innocent or harmless and some are symptoms of disease. If the heart murmur is harmless it is not dangerous and the person with it will live longer. If it is a sign of a disease, the person must seek medical attention to be able to live longer. It is possible to die from a heart murmur, but very rare. Sometimes if a person is born with one the baby can have a difficult time until a repair is completed. For the most part murmurs are not an issue and just need to be observed.
