Why do people have swollen lymph nodes when they are sick?

Report as

The lymph nodes in the body is a part of the immune system. When a lymph node becomes swollen it is because it is filtering infection or disease out of the body. If lymph nodes continue to grow or get hard and tender, you should see a doctor for treatment.

Not every illness causes swollen lymph nodes. When that happens though, it is because the lymph nodes are doing their job and fighting the infection that is making a person sick.
