When searching a new camera you should first determine what type of pictures you will be taking and then the price range you are willing to pay. Camera prices have come down dramatically in the last few years and now you can a great camera for a minimal price. When looking at digital cameras you should decide if you want one with a rechargeable battery or one that uses regular alkaline batteries. You should then compare options offered that are within your price range. The MP, or mega pixels will determine how clear your images will be and the zoom will determine how close you will be able to get to your subject. Point and shoot digitals are the easiest to operate. If you are a more serious photographer then Digital SLR cameras would better fit your needs. As far as the manufacturers, most are very good although Canon always gets high ratings on most surveys.
