You need to synch your photos from the photo library after which you can delete them with no problem. Additionally, you should try to access the saved photos album in your iPad and delete them directly or use the iTunes sync to make them easily accessible for deleting.

The easiest way to delete photos on iPad1, is to first, go to: wondershare.com
1. Download Wondershare on your laptop/desktop computer. It's free.
2. Once the download is finished, connect your iPad1 to the computer
3. Give your computer and the Wondershare program time to recognize the iPad1
4. Just follow the on screen prompts and PRESTO, they're gone.

No need to worry about all the technical stuff like "sync your photos......", etc....
Some answers makes it sound like you have to be a computer programmer just to
delete pix from your iPad.

Just go to : wondershare.com

It may also work on all generation iPads. I too have a 1st generation and it worked like
magic. Fun, fast and easy.
If a 3 year old can just read, he/she can do it.

Once you launch the Photos app, simply choose the photo album containing the photos you want to delete. If you are not sure of the album, the Photos tab at the top of the screen contains all photos on the iPad 1. Next, tap the share button at the top right corner of the screen. This is the button that looks like a square with an arrow coming out of it. On the main screen, the share button is really an edit button that puts your iPad 1 into multiple selection mode.
After you tap the share button, you are ready to select the photos you want to delete. Simply tapping on a photo will put a blue circle with a check mark on the photo.
Continue tapping until you have all the photos selected you want to delete, and when you are read, touch the red delete button at the top of the screen. You will be asked to confirm that you want to delete the selected items, and after confirming, the photos will be purged from the iPad 1.
