How Did Pioneers Make Soap

Report as

The pioneers made soap by making lye and then added it with the old fat and boiled in a iron kettle to make the soap. In order to make the soap the ash hopper was filled with ashes from the fireplace then putting water into it and the liquid comes out at the bottom of the hopper, which is how they made the lye for soap.
