Nathaniel Bacon, a wealthy planter led a rebellion in which discontented frontiersmen protested against Native American raids on the frontier as well unfair practices by the Royal Governor of Virginia, William Berkeley. It was one of the first times that poor whites and poor blacks were united in a cause. The farmers did not succeed in driving Native Amercans from Virginia, but Berkely got recalled back to England to answer for the local problems.
Bacon's Rebellion took place in 1676, from discord between Virginia farmers and Native Americans trading practices in the Virginia Colony. Led by Nathan Bacon, the farmers led an uprising in which black and white farmers banded together and several native americans were killed.Governor Berkeley then called for construction of containment forts for the Indians in the area.
