How to know if someone is telling you the truth or just telling you what you want to hear?

You will know that they are telling you the truth when you do something wrong and they correct you even though it may not be polite. You can tell that they are telling you what you want to hear when they never tell you that you are doing something wrong even when you know you are.

It all depends. If you are already suspicious of them not telling the truth, they must have already done something to make you feel that way. Go with your gut instinct, it's usually right. 8)
