Chicken and rice soup. The ingredients: whole chicken cut into sections; celery how much is your preference; carrots, chicken broth or bullion cubes, and rice. Boil chicken in water until done (about an hour or so), remove from water and set aside to cool, cut veggies and put in the pot with the liquid from cooking the chicken, add 2-3 cubes of broth or box broth into it. When chicken is cooled enuf, break into chunks and put back into pot with veggies. Choose your seasoning, such as Tony chacheres creole or Italian blends. Your choice. Then add 2 cups of uncooked rice to the pot. Cook until rice is done, about 15-20 minutes. Whole dish costs maybe $10. We make this very often and the kids love it. Happy eating.
Pretty much any type of pasta dish with bread and salad. Bangers and mash with salad, otherwise known as mashed potatoes and sausage (I like Polska kielbasa, but you can experiment, boil the sausage with potatoes for extra flavor). My family is always down for Mexican food too, for quick and easy burritos cook up chorizo with some ground beef, add beans, rice and whatever veggies you like. You can make Mexican and bangers and mash in excess for $20 and have leftovers.... I'm real picky when it comes to left overs but they heat up well second time around.
