Casey, in most states the age of sexual consent is 16, & in some states even younger. Want to make sure about your state?? Google "age of sexual consent in(whatever state)" and the laws in your state will pop up and you can find out for sure. Had you mentioned the state you're in, I'd have done that for you. You seem to be on top of the birth control issue, so that isn't a problem. Congrats on being responsible. If the age of sexual consent in your state is 16, then there's nothing to worry about as far as those statutory rape laws that someone else mentioned.

I agree. It all depends on the state as far as the age goes.

It also depends on wheter your parents liek your boyfriend of not.

Im in the state of indiana. I think we would also be protected from the "romeo and Juliet law"

Casey, I too live in Indiana and the age of consent IS 16-so just don't say diddly about anything that occurred BEFORE you hit 16 and you both will be ok.

They could press charges against him for statutory rape (whether you consent or not). If that happens he will be on a sex offender list for life at the least, worse is prison time as well as list.

you need to get your info together here. In MOST states the age of sexual consent is 16-in many states, even younger. The only limits placed on those stats is if the older person is in a position of authority over the younger person, such as teacher, coach, cop, doctor, etc. And for your info, depending on the sexual crime, some of those on the sexual offender list CAN ask to be removed after 10yrs-you're NOT always on that list for life. You need to be up to date on the info you post in here, & YOU aren't!

Well aren't we a bit testy, jade! I do have my facts together and in most states if you are under the age of 18, you are a minor.

Candybar, YOU need to google "age of sexual consent" in all 50 states-yes, at under18 you ARE considered a minor as far as drinking, living on your own, etc, but there ARE different laws in place for sexual consent. In MY state its 16. In Louisiana, the age of sexual consent can be as low as 13, but that depends upon the age of the partner, among other things. Yes, I AM testy when I see people giving out info when they don't know what they're talking about. What state doYOU live in? Google the law re sexual consent by a minor in your state-I think you will be quite surprised to find out that they're less than the age of 18!

What is the 2012 Age of Consent in North Carolina? Here is the age of consent for one of the states in which YOU lived, candybar. Read it and weep.

The North Carolina legal Age of Consent for sexual contact is 16 years old. A total of thirty one states have set their age of consent at 16, the lowest age of consent in any state.

Any sexual intercourse with a person under 16 years of age is prohibited, with a close-in-age exemption if the defendant is less than 3 years older than the victim. Defendants between three and six years older then the person are guilty of a reduced charge (class C felony), and older perpetrators are charged with a class B1 felony.
North Carolina Close-In-Age Exemption
North Carolina has a close-in-age exemption, also known as a "Romeo and Juliet law", to the legal age of consent. This provision allows partners who are close in age, or both under the North Carolina age of consent, to engage in consensual sex without fear of prosecution under North Carolina age of consent regulations. For more information, read about close-in-age exemptions.
What is the Age of Consent?
NC Legal Age of Consent, 2011 and 2012

The Age of Consent is the age at which a person is deemed by North Carolina law to be capable of consenting to, and engaging in, sexual acts. Anyone who engages in sexual activity of any type with a partner under the applicable Age of Consent is breaking the law and can be charged with crimes ranging from a misdemeanor to a felony (statutory rape) depending on the jurisdiction in which they are prosecuted. North Carolina's specific laws on the Age of Consent can be found above.
