If we went to another galaxy how would we know it is still there?

The close galaxies like the Andromeda shouldn't be a problem.If your going to a galaxy that's billions of light years away,then problem.Those galaxies are so far away we are still seeing the birth because it took billions of years for the light to reach us!That galaxy could have used up all it gaseous resources and it might not even be there,but we won't know that until it fades from our view-- today,next week,next decade or millions of years from now.

You would know about the precious galaxy and the new galaxy that you are in since you can remember. Galaxies are not exactly the same so the difference in the new galaxy will also help to remind you.
