How can I take care of stray cats?

There is 3 stray cats that always come to my house and we leave food out for them. It is snowing where I live and they are always freezing and I feel bad for them. This one cat always sits at our door and stares at us and I went outside to give it food and it came up to me and i petted but don't worry I washed my hands after. But I still feel bad for them. How can I take care of them?

Feed them, give them shelter of some sort, like a box with a few warm pieces or clothing or blankets to keep them warm, and from the pads on their feet freezing, which can be very painful. As long as the cats aren't foaming around the mouth or anything, which I'm sure you would've mentioned, they don't have rabies, and they can't pass anything to you. The fact that one let you pet him, means that they're not feral cats, so they'll be easy to tame, and earn your trust. You have to get them to trust you, so you can take them to the vet and adopt them, or keep them as pets. If you do decide to adopt them, make sure to look online for a no kill animal shelter in your area. Shelters are overcrowded, and there's a good chance that If you bring them to a animal shelter that does euthanize,(kill) their time will be up before a home can be found for them, in which case they'd be better off in the wild. At less then, they're living, not dying because there wasn't a cage open for them. Pet them as much as possible, and give them plenty of food, because the snow has probably diminished their food source in the wild. Also, don't forget a water bowl, All the water around you is probably frozen, so they have nothing to drink. Put out some warm water for them, they'll really appreciate it. Don't be afraid of them, they're not going to hurt you or get you sick, they're pleading for your help, and are depending on you to save their lives, and not cruelly turn your back. Cats are wonderful creatures, so full of love and care, and they need their love and care to be reciprocated right back to them. If you get mean answers on here, don't listen to them, please. They're just ignorant animal haters with no hearts. I've been rescuing animals all of my life, and I know what I'm talking about. Please listen to me, the cats need someone to help them, and thats you. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to comment on my answer, I'll check later to see if there's anything you want to know.
Best of luck,
A friendly animal rescuer

And, just another note: on the cat box to keep the cat warm, it would be an awesome idea to put a garbage bag over it to keep the snow out, and keep everything from getting soaked, and it would be a whole lot warmer for the cat. :)

.. With a tarp on top. The garbage bag may not be enough. The tarp will really help, and keep everything nice and toasty:)

Put a box or something out (to the block the wind) with an old blanket for warmth.

If the cats are feral that can take care of themselves. They visit you because it's an easy meal

If the cats were feral, they'd never let her pet them in the first place. They're clearly domesticated cats looking for help. I pity you for being so ignorant and heartless, you'd actually tell someone to turn away freezing, starving cats. Wait till karma catches up with you.
