Why do I need to change my air filters often?

We moved into our current a year ago and never changed air filters. I was told the other day that I need to replace these filters every 1 or 2 months. Why?

The correct answer is when a filter becomes clogged it restricts the air being pulled into the unit and causes it to operate less efficiently. The dust isn't going to be recirculated because it can't be pulled through the filter. Change it every month and you will be fine. I work in the heating and cooling industry.

You should clean your filters or replace them once every month. The air filters trap dust and debris from your house and if the filters get clogged the dust will be redistributed to your house. Clogs in the filter also cause its parts to wear out easily and reduce the efficiency of the filters.

U should clean them because filters trap all kinds of dirt, dust etc, so that the dirt, dust & all that bad stuff wont get caught in ur lungs & give u respiratory infections

There are two classes of filters; those that need changing monthly, and those that need to be changed every 3 months.

Your environment will dictate how often either of those class of filters will need to be changed, i.e. if you live on a dirt road, a 1 month filter may only be good for 3 weeks, and a 3 month filter may only last 2 months.
