Benvolio is one of the only characters in the play who displays a stable personality. Benvolio is somewhat obscure and does not play a noticeable role in the play, but when the play is looked at on a deeper level, he is one of the major peacemaking factors. He is able to weave stability throughout a situation that does not offer much in the way of constants.
Benvolio is seen in the first scene of the play when there is a fight between the Montagues and Capulets. He tries to break up the fight by calling for peace, although his endeavors come to no success. He plays an opposite role of Juliet's cousin, Tybalt, who is hot tempered and easily picks fights with members of the opposing family. Benvolio is only interested in peace and the solitude that it can provide; he is not interested in feuding with the Capulet family like many of his relatives are.Learn more about Literature
