Q:

Can you shop Marshalls online?

A:

Marshalls does not sell merchandise online. Marshalls has a website, but consumers can only buy gift cards through the site. The website also provides a store locator, look books and credit card applications for potential customers. TJX Companies, the parent company of Marshalls, explains that Marshalls may offer online sales in the future.

Marshalls is an off-price retail chain offering clothing for the entire family, home decor, footwear, accessories, furniture, toys and gourmet food products. The retailer is popular because its inventory is always changing. Marshalls stocks name brand and off-brand items in all departments.

As of 2013, there were 942 Marshalls stores in the United States. Most Marshalls stores are approximately 31,000 square feet. Alfred Marshall, alongside a group of entrepreneurs, founded Marshalls in 1956 in Beverly, Mass. The group came up with the concept of selling brand name items at a discount. The original Marshalls was self-service and sold clothing and house wares. To diversify its offerings, the store leased extra floor space to independent sellers, which helped Marshalls maintain profitability. Consumers were not aware of the business model. A soda shop and grill named the A & M Luncheonette was in the original store, as well. The retailer has been through several acquisitions since its birth in 1956.
